چکیده

desickling action of urea is a concentration-dependent event. McCurdy and Mahmood (5) were successful in 14 trials out of 24 with i. v. urea, even though they also used urea at blood levels below those specified. Furthermore, they suggested that their failures might be dose-related. I am surprised that they did so well for the i. v. modality, since they used urea only at 70 to 120 mg/100 ml instead of the specified 150 to 200 mg/100 ml. Aside from our published reports, there are thus six (5-10) other independent groups who have had successful experiences (though our protocol was not completely followed) with urea therapy, and two groups (3, 4) (using entirely inadequate quantities of urea) who have had complete failures.

Kinetics and inhibition effects of furfural and hydroxymethyl furfural on enzymes in yeast

Fermentatively produced ethanol from lignocellulose by yeast is a renewable alternative to fossil fuels. However, inhibitors originating from the breakdown process of the raw material decrease the fermentation rate. Previous studies have made known inhibition effects by the furan compounds furfural and hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF). In the current work, the kinetics and inhibition effect of furf...

Conversion of Furans by Baeyer-Villiger Monooxygenases

Various furans are considered as valuable platform chemicals as they can be derived from plant biomass. Yet, for their exploitation, follow-up chemistry is required. Here we demonstrate that Baeyer-Villiger monooxygenases (BVMOs) can be used as biocatalysts for the selective oxidation of several furans, including 5-(hydroxymethyl) furfural (HMF) and furfural. A total of 15 different BVMOs were ...

Feasibility of Removing Furfurals from Sugar Solutions Using Activated Biochars Made from Agricultural Residues

Lignocellulosic feedstocks are often prepared for ethanol fermentation by treatment with a dilute mineral acid catalyst that hydrolyzes the hemicellulose and possibly cellulose into soluble carbohydrates. The acid-catalyzed reaction scheme is sequential, whereby the released monosaccharides are further degraded to furans and other chemicals that are inhibitory to the subsequent fermentation ste...

Application of exogenous organic acids and remediation process of lead and cadmium contamination in canola plants. Hakimeh Oloumi*, Effat Ahmadi Mousavi and Neda Hasibi

Heavy metal contamination of soil, water and air has caused serious environmental hazard in the biosphere due to rapid industrialization and urbanization. A variety of metal binding ligands such as organic acids and amino acids involve in the heavy metal remediation mechanisms by plants. This paper analyses the possible role of amino acid histidine and organic acids, namely, citric, oxalic and ...

Formation of degradation compounds from lignocellulosic biomass in the biorefinery: sugar reaction mechanisms.

The degradation compounds formed during pretreatment when lignocellulosic biomass is processed to ethanol or other biorefinery products include furans, phenolics, organic acids, as well as mono- and oligomeric pentoses and hexoses. Depending on the reaction conditions glucose can be converted to 5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-furaldehyde (HMF) and/or levulinic acid, formic acid and different phenolics at ...
